When the lockdown
becomes an obsession

Isaraok, 2020

My first harvest meal is made of what I harvested last autumn.

Mashed sweet chesnuts. 10 days of lockdown in water after harvest, change water everyday and remove those which float, and let dry. And later, peeling, boiling, and purée.

Walnut kernels. Preserved by lockdown in the shells of the dry walnuts.

Raisins. Grapes dryed by lockdown at 40°C during hours and hours.

Apples. Preserved by lockdown in the darkness, freshness and dampness.

Tea of verbena leaves, locked in a jar since they are dry.

A meal of fruits, but not frugal at all, with a harvest locked during months.

Lockdowns preserves fruits !

So for my second meal, it will be the contrary: no lockdown.

Only ingredients harvested outdoors, now.

Bamboo shoots, a variety suited to cooking. To peel before boiling in water.

Allium triquetrum, I’m going to get the bulbs. There was a tigh lockdown, underground. To be cleaned before boiled in water.

Here I put a jerusalem artichoke a few years ago, out of curiosity. This is exactly what I had buried. Now there are many. Enough to make purée.

And here is my carex, the one from the sombrero. The seeds are unripe, but the birds eat them. And on the web I found a recipe for unripe seeds.

Roast them until they get light brown, before adding salt and use it to sprinkle. They are getting light brown, and they are popping ! Pop-sedge, pop-carex, or pop-laîche ?

Anyway they are pretty roasted, now. I’m going to sprinkle them on my purée of Jerusalem artichoke.

Let’s add the small bulbs. No, not like that ! Rather on mashed sorel.

Flowers, mint and wild fennel, for my bamboo shoots. A few berries of elaeagnus, hidden under the leaves. And a tea of lemon balm.

Only ingredients harvested outdoors, now !

Except my blackberry vinegar coming, here, attracted by the bamboo shoots. Not respecting the rule « no lockdown ». This deserves a fine !

Fine, fine … Fine enough ? Yess … a pine cone, when heated, liberates its seeds, they willl be fines.

One for the blackberry vinegar. And the bamboo shoots, cooked indoors ? One fine for each of them. And the plate, why is it indoors ? Drops of water are unlocking off the clouds ?

Then, fines for ereryone.

And above all, dont’t forget to keep your bamboo peelings in your pockets, they will protect you when you’ll have to press buttons !

If you liked this video, turn-off your screen, unlock yourself physically, as much as possible, and unlock yourself mentally, by distancing from a life model which is triply locked working – shopping – apartment.

In short, add some harvesting in your life !
