A knife, a wood sanding material.

Get the bark of the pine branch, by sliding a knife under the bark, previously split all along the branch. Let it dry around a log, the inner side of the bark out.

Sand the slats of chestnut<:a>, and sew a piece of slat to fix the two ends of the bark, using bindweed as thread.

Then sew a slat on the top of the box.

Make a circle with the willow stem. Fix the ends with some bindweed, after carved notches prevent the circle from enlarging.

At the bottom of the box, sew with bindweed the willow circle inside and the slat outside the box.

Still using bindweed, sew the rest of the slats to make the bottom of the box, it will de placed on the willow circle. On the photo it’s clear that the bark’s exterior side in inside the box.

The back view of the box. The slats make the structure of the box solid, the bark alone would be too fragile.

Advantages

  • A small branch can make a quite big box.
  • The colour is unique
  • The box is lightweight.

Limits

  • The bark is thin, so don't be a brute with the box !
Now it’s your turn to invent with bark !
