1 saw, 1 knife, 1 small wood drill (2mm).

How to make a broom ?

Saw one end of the stick in two equal parts along a few cm.

With the knife, on the same end, start a split perpendicular to the saw cut.

Continue the splitting by hand, on such a length that you get a Y-shaped fork.

Let it dry so that the Y shape is maintained.

With the knife, carve from the 2nd piece of wood a slat as long as the width you want for the broom. Its thickness should let you insert it in the saw cut, which has been divided in two by the split.

Cut the end of the slat, with the knife. Nail the slat with a thorn, after you made a pre-hole with a small drill bit. The thorn will then be cut above and under the handle.

Fix a bundle of pine needles across the slat with an elastic bracelet, in order to maintain the needles when drying will make them shrink. If the needles are already dry, you can use a natural cordage.

Do it again until the slat is covered with bundles of pine needles, and give a name to the broom.

Advantages

  • Agreable noise.
  • Agreable smell.
  • No need to hide this broom in a broom closet, so no need for a broom closet.

Limits

  • The drying delay could be days or weeks, if the fork is made by splitting a stick.
  • Do you visitors mean that your home is not clean, when they ask if they can use it ?
A nice fork ? No need to split.
